Woodsmith Foundation unveils new grants to back everyday community essentials

Community groups across the borough of Redcar & Cleveland, the former borough of Scarborough and the North York Moors National Park are being given a welcome boost this year as the Woodsmith Foundation launches its brand‑new Small Grants for Everyday Essentials and Activities.

The grants, ranging from £50 to £2,000, are designed to help organisations quickly secure the items, equipment and short‑term activities that help to keep them going.

Understanding that often groups need help quickly, the application process is designed to be simple, with applications reviewed at the end of every month. Groups will receive a decision within two weeks of that review.

While the Foundations larger Community Grants worth up to £10,000 are also open for organisations planning longer-term more ambitious projects, this new offer focuses on everyday essentials.

Rebecca Wagner, Grants and Programmes Manager of the Woodsmith Foundation, said: “Local groups are the heartbeat of our communities. They told us they needed quicker, lighter‑touch funding to cover the everyday items that keep people connected and supported. This new grant is our answer to that. It’s practical, simple and shaped around what organisations said would genuinely help them. We want these grants to spark possibility, remove pressure and make it easier for groups to get on with the brilliant work they already do.”

Applications are now open, with £70,000 available in the total 2026 small grants fund. The online application form is simple to complete, and anyone who is unsure if they should apply is encouraged to get in touch to have a conversation.
